Title The localisation of a global movement How citizen journalism is embraced by a Hungarian news-portal
Summary This paper investigates the evolution and localisation of citizen journalism, a global partisan media movement. Taking into consideration that the movement is being assimilated by mainstream media all over the world, this paper wishes to highlight this process with a special regard to the democratisation of the public sphere. The research underlying the paper is a qualitative analysis of a Hungarian news-portal that incorporates citizen journalism. The central argument of the paper is that such assimilation undoubtedly changes some core aspects of citizen journalism, but does not necessarily undermine its potential to democratise the public sphere.
