Title IS ALTRUISTIC PUNISHMENT IN FACT ALTRUISTIC? AN EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH
Summary The thesis intends to present an exhaustive description of a newly-emerging field of economic methodology: experimental economics, including its history, methods and most important literature; moreover, it demonstrates how the method works in practice. The experiment is designed to test a hypothesis, according to which third-party punishment reveals altruistic motives of the subjects. The alternative hypothesis is that the punishment is purely of normative or at least non-altruistic type. The results of the experiment suggest that altruism is clearly included in the motives of the punishment, which does not contradict with a priori expectations of the literature.
