Title Asylum Policies in the UK: The Underlying Reasons of Restrictiveness
Summary Currently restrictive asylum policies in liberal democracies contradict liberal values. In this paper I am exploring the reasons of such phenomenon in the United Kingdom. I discover that the main reasons for the highly restrictive asylum policies in the UK are security concern, threat to cultural integrity of indigenous community and economic ‘burden’ asylum seekers and refugees cause to British citizens. The main actors – the state, the Media and the political community – are the most important factors involved directly or indirectly in decision-making of asylum policies. The perceived and the real information about asylum seekers produced and consumed by three actors contribute to the asylum policies outcome.
