Author Zhurnalova, Mariya Manolova
Title Religion in the Public Sphere: Public Schools and Religious Symbolism - A Comparative Analysis
Summary The thesis discusses the constitutional issues related to religious symbolism in public schools in six different jurisdictions, concentrating on religious exercises, such as school prayer and collective worship; religious attire worn by students and teachers; and displays of religious symbols such as the Ten Commandments or the crucifix in classrooms. The thesis argues that an inclusive pluralist approach to these issues is the one that maximizes religious liberty and equality in the public school context.
