Title Late Medieval Tableware from the Franciscan Friary of Targu Mures
Summary Tableware constitutes one of the major groups of pottery that was found on the territory of the Franciscan friary from Târgu Mureş. Archaeological excavations took place only between 1999 and 2007. Thus there was no research done on this material, but two papers have been written on the Árpádian Age pottery and the kitchen ware from the fourteenth and sixteenth century. This thesis presents and analyzes the tableware from the fourteenth and sixteenth century. It argues that probably this material is of local product with Western formal origins. Differences in paste could be observed as well, and this could indicate different clay sources. The contact with Western Europe is demonstrated by an Austrian vessel fragment. The question of the white ware production and the fine grey ceramics is discussed as well.
