Title The Emergence of the Gothic-Grotesque Body as Spectacle in Romanian Mass Media: The Case of The 5 O'clock News
Summary This thesis attempts to explore a recent phenomenon in Romanian mass media, the representation of Gothic-grotesque bodies as spectacle, by looking at a sample of news coverage on The 5 O’clock News, a highly popular program that introduced this particular media genre to the Romanian mass media market. The main concerns of this study are the ways in which the Gothic-grotesque bodies are framed as such through certain patterns of representation, as well as the possible impact that their spectacle has on the audience.
