CEU eTD Collection (2008); Poprádi, Janka Kinga: Healers and Lay Medics in 16th-17th century Hungary

CEU Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2008
Author Poprádi, Janka Kinga
Title Healers and Lay Medics in 16th-17th century Hungary
Summary This thesis attempts to examine the medical circumstances in Hungary between 1540 and 1663. Argumentation is based on eight unpublished or partly published medical booklets collected by the National Széchényi Library in Budapest. The author argues the presence of the official, educated physicians as well as less educated healers of Hungary between 1540 and 1663. The main assumption is that notebooks examined by the author of this thesis were kinds of mediator between high and low culture. Therefore, not only healers but also physicians were surveyed in this thesis.
