An Analysis of the Nationalistic Discourse of the Romanian Orthodox Church in four case studies: involvement of clergymen in general elections, the property restitution towards the Greek-Catholic Church, restitution of Emanuil Gojdu's property towards Gojdu Foundation and the construction of the Orthodox "Mantuirea Neamului" Cathedral
Summary	This thesis investigates the intricate relationship between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Romanian State after the fall of Communism. In order to illustrate the established patterns of Church-State relations, I have chosen four main case studies: the political involvement of clergymen in general national elections; the property restitution towards the Greek-Catholic Church; the controversy concerning the Gojdu Foundation; and the project for the construction of the “Mântuirea Neamului” Orthodox Cathedral. In all these cases, the Orthodox Church was at the forefront of public debates. I argue that the Romanian Orthodox Church has managed to surpass the constitutional role assigned to it by appealing to nationalist feelings in order to gather mass support to its cause.
