Title Protest in Uzbekistan: Where are the Governmental Limits?
Summary In Uzbekistan, despite high centralization and concentration of power at the national level, the government does not hold the country tight in its hands, as it often proclaims. There are important factors that hinder president's plans for running the country and these factors are the consequences of his own policy-making strategies. The government's restricted scope of choices is clearly seen in the way how it reacts to protests that take place all over the country. Through the examination of the government's reactions to protest, the character of Uzbek state-society relations as well as the most important weaknesses of the Uzbek regime can be effectively identified.
