Title SECURITY THREATS AND ETHNIC CONFLICT: THE CASE OF COLOMBIAN INDIGENOUS PEOPLE
Summary Notion of the category of Security becomes particularly essential in the emergency situations of violent armed conflicts. The threats posed in the unleashed armed conflict are many-fold regarding their nature and objects and are generated by complex dynamics of the conflict. Threats and violence therefore are not limited only by armed confrontation and physical injuries. The vulnerability of the silenced groups in such conditions is very complex and hardly can be overcome with simple military intervention. The paper develops the concept of ‘emancipation’ as a way to provide security by international community to such vulnerable/silenced groups. The idea is elaborated on the case of indigenous peoples in Colombia.
