| Title | The Relation of Theories to Experience: Coherence and operations in the epistemology of science |
| Summary | The thesis will consider two problems which have been seen as challenging the testability of scientific theories, and hence the rationality of accepting them. These are the problems of theory-dependence, and of holism. I give arguments for accepting both of these problematic theses, and then develop an account which demonstrates, despite these problems, the rationality of the scientific project, and hence of the acceptance of scientific results. |
