Title THE PLANT "BILSHOVYK": INDUSTRY AND THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT OF KYIV IN 19th-20th CENTURIES
Summary My thesis is a case study of one machinery plant in Kyiv which was recently transformed into a shopping and entertainment mall and before 1917 it was the place around which revolutionary movements were organized. Before the October Revolution it was “Greter and Krivanek plant” owned by swiss and czech businessmen; in 1922 the plant receive a name “Bolshevik” and today the mall has the same name “Bolshevik”. I take three time lines to follow up relations between industrial and urban development of this particular neighborhood and Kyiv in general.
