CEU eTD Collection (2011); Lopina, Valeriya: Supply and Demand Shocks in the CIS Countries

Title Supply and Demand Shocks in the CIS Countries
Summary I assess the correlation of supply and demand shocks between the CIS countries and three large Western European countries between 2000-2010 using the structural vector autoregressive model. I find that Russia has a high correlation of supply shocks with Kazakhstan, Belarus and the European countries. I foresee that further integration within the Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan) is likely to synchronize the business cycles and create conditions for formation of the currency union.
