| Title | The Prehistory of Evolutionary Linguistics |
| Summary | This thesis investigates the question of speculations on the origin of language, especially the question why this philosophical discourse ended in the early centuries of Christianity. The main focus of the work is European classical culture (Ancient Greek and Roman philosophy), but the Jewish roots of Christian philosophy of language is also analysed in one chapter. The main method of research is historical philology. Plato's dialogues, both the Indo-European root and the philosophical usage of logos as well as the philosophical works dealing with the origin of language are inspected. But a broader philosophical context of glottogenesis is also worked out. |
