| Title | Tourism in the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic: Meanings and Infrastructure |
| Summary | The study focuses on the development of the socialist model of tourism in the Soviet Union during the interwar period. The author examines transformations of the infrastructure of tourism through the example of the Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic and analyses changes in the meaning of tourism on the basis of the journal Na sushe i na more [On Land and Sea] (1929-1933). The research is based mainly on a historical approach, although an attempt has been made to explore the anthropology of tourism and leisure as well. The author argues that changes and developments in excursions and tourism organization that took place in the Ukrainian SSR and whole Soviet Union during the period from 1919 till 1936 formed specific socialist model of tourism that in many ways reproduced the organizational and ideological shifts in other arenas of state power. |
