Title Exchange Rate Pass Through in Romania
Summary Using domestic price data for Romania, spanning the period 2000m1 to 2011m12 I investigate the mechanism of transmission of exchange rate shocks into domestic inflation. My results show that exchange rate pass through is incomplete both in the short term and on the long term; it decreases along the pricing chain and through time. Analysis performed at disaggregated import price level shows a significant degree of heterogeneity among industries. An inquiry on the consistency of exporter’s actions to different changes in the environment shows that there is indeed asymmetry when the price is below or above the equilibrium level, however evidence for their actions in case there is appreciation or depreciation of the exchange rate is not clear cut.
