| Title | Ecumenism and The Cold War |
| Summary | This thesis looks at the relationship between the ecumenical movement and the Cold War. The ecumenical movement helped develop diplomatic negotiations and create an open dialogue between the East and West, but was also used to undermine or strengthen the position of a church, or nation, in an international environment. The main focus of my thesis will be the ecumenical movement in the 1950's and 1960's, and specifically on the event of the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965). The Second Vatican Council represented a radical departure for the Roman Catholic Church. This ecumenical council initiated a renewal in both the culture and structure of the church, which impacted the relationship of the church towards the USSR. |
