Title Physician-assisted suicide(The Netherlands, the State of Oregon and the practice of the European Court of Human Rights)
Summary In my thesis I will explore what is physician-assisted suicide, on which basis it can be legalize since the right to die does not exist and is tried to be avoided by all jurisdictions. The question of physician-assisted suicide is quite difficult and controversial. There are quite strong argument on the both sides: the right to life as a fundamental right which protects the person`s life and the principle that the life is sacred. On the other hand there are such rights as right to dignity, personal autonomy and right to respect for private life. In addition, physician-assisted suicide is quite tangible because it very easy to cross the line of its noble goal of releasing the people from suffering. It needs very careful observation and regulation.
At first I will look on the rights which can be extended to the right to physician-assisted suicide. For better understanding of the issue it is necessary to explore the development of physician-assisted suicide through the time and the current regulation and practice (the Netherlands and the State of Oregon).
