Title Politics of Gender and Nationality: Estonian Paramilitary Organisation
Summary The purpose of conducting this thesis was to research gender and nation building in the self-presentation of the Estonian paramiliary organisation called the Estonian Defence League (the EDL). In order to work with this research question, three blocks of analyses were conducted: oral history interviews with young male EDLers, analysis of the EDL publication forewords and photostreams, as well as analysis of the EDL digital archives. As a research finding, I concluded that the EDL self-representation is a military-like, matching outlines of a quasi-secret male-dominated society, built upon nationalism and corrsponding exclusionary memory work.
