Title IS THE EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY READY FOR A MONETARY INTEGRATION?
Summary The East African Community which consists of five member states, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, has set an agenda for creating a monetary integration in 2015. Accordingly, the objective of this paper is to assess whether the East African Community is ready for monetary integration within the time table table put forward or not. To analyse this issue, the paper looks into the macroeconomic convergence criteria set by the Monetary Affairs Committee of the East African Community. In addition to the economic convergence criteria, the paper analyses other existing economic and political situations within the East African Community.
