Title The Response by States to Domestic Violence with a Focus on Georgia
Summary This thesis focuses on one of the most pervasive human rights violations of our time, and one of the biggest world problems – domestic violence against women. This thesis aims to examine the extent of Georgia’s compliance with its international obligations on domestic violence against women. In particular, this thesis provides a comparative and critical analyzes of the standards available under the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, the European Convention on Human Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women on domestic violence. The submission of this thesis is that to a great extent Georgia fails to comply with its international obligations on the issue of domestic violence, which includes the failure to recognize domestic violence as a gender-based violence directed against women.
