Title Challenges and opportunities for peacemaking in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
Summary Nagorno Karabakh conflict is an ethno-territorial conflict between Azerbaijan and an Armenian populated region on Nagorno Karabakh. Often described as a frozen conflict it can explode any second. Although a cease-fire was signed in 1994 and negotiations held ever since the conflict is not yet solved and moreover it is in the worst state since the signing of the ceasefire agreement. The recent 4-day war in the beginning of April 2016 changed the dynamics and importance of the conflict. By using several conflict analysis tools and theories the paper will discuss the conflict in details, particularly from the geopolitical, political and socio-cultural aspects. And by using interviews with former and current peacemakers I will evaluate the current state of the conflict and point out peacemaking opportunities as well as the challenges to overcome in order to achieve peace.
