Title | Whose Immagined Community is it? The exclusion of LGBTQI+ People from the National Narratives in Russia |
Summary | The fact that the Russian LGBTQ+ community are exposed to multiple human rights violations and are excluded from the national narratives is not something that would surprise anyone these days. However, the underlying reasons behind that have been vastly overlooked up until recently, and thus allowing academia, activists, and LGBTQ+ members to take the status quo for granted. This thesis will try to provide a broader theoretical overview of Russia's relationship with its own citizens, who are queer. The hypothesis built for explainging the given phenomenon is a multi-dimensional and intersectional, in a sense that it uses the intersectionality of postcolonial theory with the notions of nation and sexuality and gender. The application of postcolonial theory to Russian case can be peculiar, however, I believe that it will give a valuable insight for understanding the given case. |
