Title The Art of Insults in The Renaissance and the Ultimate Exemplar of Stupidity
Summary The subject of this thesis is the development of the humanist invective in the context of the humanist-scholastic debate. In the first chapter it presents the diversity of sources and Petrarch’s reinterpretation of the invective. The second chapter is dedicated to the second stage of the humanist-scholastic debate and the shift of the satirical literature towards invective during the decade 1509–1519. The case study in the last chapter is an example of this shift and shows how the satire was used as a vehicle for the invective in the years immediately before the reformation.
