| Title | Political Paradigm and Official Historiography: Debates around Abkhazia (1950s) |
| Summary | Abkhazians and Georgians had different historical memories, but they came into conflict when an unofficial historical thesis, Ingorokva’s theory, attempted to change the official narrative told in the Marxist history textbook of 1946, regarding the medieval Abkhazians.history in the service of the Soviet politics was never objective and always possessed the features of the Soviet Nationalities policy. That is why in order to understand the attempts to change the official narrative in the 1950s, one should look at those changes that took place in the previous decades. The attempt should be connected to the initiative of the Soviet state, as during the late Stalinism, the literary scholar would not be able to publish a historical article. Ingorokva’s theory existed alongside the official historical narrative taught in schools and this co-existence lasted until the de-Stalinization. |
