Summary Private equity industry plays an important role in promoting the economic growth within the European Union. Although it emerged as an unregulated industry, the 2007 financial crisis and its aftermath stressed the necessity for its regulation. This thesis examines the current regulatory framework related to the private equity in the European Union and selected member states: The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Slovakia. The main task of this thesis is, firstly, to analyze the regulatory framework of the private equity on the level of the EU set by the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD), which is common for both the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and Slovakia. And secondly, by comparing the regulatory framework of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Slovakia’s find out, whether and if so, Slovakia can benefit from the experience of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and improve its regulatory framework in order to make it more attractive for the private equity in the future.
