Title Construction of the Post-Soviet City Narrative Through the Toponymic Space: The Case of Kharkiv, 1991-2016
Summary This research project is dedicated to the study of the construction of the toponymic narrative of Kharkiv, an Eastern Ukrainian city, from 1991 to 2016. The analysis includes the changes of toponymy which happened within the given period, contextualized with the state changes of memory politics, in particular in its representation of the Soviet past. The roles of actors of different levels – state and local authorities and the city activists – in the process of symbolic marking of the city space are also considered within the scope of the research.
