| Title | Polish, Czech and Serbian Myth Deconstructors: On Walicki, Macura and Colovic |
| Summary | In this thesis, I attempt to examine how three authors contemplated national myths. In particular, I focus on the ways Andrzej Walicki, Vladimír Macura and Ivan Čolović approach myths both as concepts and as something already present within the respective societies of the Polish, Czech and Serbian lands. In all three cases, approaches vary and it is understandable that as Walicki is a historian of ideas, Macura a semiotician and Čolović a political anthropologist, the things defined by them as myths wary as well. For Walicki, he deconstructs and depicts them as ideas. For Macura, dreams act as a partial substitute for the myth-concept. For Čolović, myth is either found to be referred as such or as a pledge. The authors are introduced alongside the myths they write about. Finally, I attempt a comparison of the approaches as to see how to go about deconstructing myths that may share commonalities with one another due to factors such as temporal, cultural-political and regional proximity. |
