| Title | Stalin as Jughashvili: Georgian Narrative about Stalin in Children's Journals during 1947-1958 |
| Summary | The paper aims to study Stalin’s cult or as the thesis uses beladi-building peculiarities in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic during the Late Stalinism and after the condemnation of the cult of personality. The main question is what kind of Stalin had been portrayed during 1930-50s in Georgia? Was his Georgianness important among Georgians and/or non- Georgians and to what extent? The paper studies Georgian Children Journal Dila issued from 1947 till 1958 in order to understand the patterns of Georgian cult-building – Jugshavilisation. Stalin and Jughashvili, a Soviet leader and a Georgian hero, coexist in Georgian narrative. The Soviet Georgian propaganda along with the official Soviet canon elaborated its own scheme of Jughashvilisation, where being Georgian or speaking Georgian is more important than any other affiliation. |
