Title Unemployment and Happiness: Evidence from the Kyrgyz Republic
Summary The paper examines a relationship between unemployment and subjective life satisfaction in Kyrgyz Republic using three years (2011-2013) panel data from Life in Kyrgyzstan Study. Apart from the general question, it also investigates the effect of different social factors such as age, gender and education on the relationship of the key variables. The empirical analysis uses linear regression mainly focusing on the results of the Fixed Effects method. The main finding is that joblessness is negatively related with subjective well-being. Younger generation, females, and people with higher education are more influenced by the absence of the job opportunities, meaning being unemployed makes them less happy on average.
