Title | THE EXTENT OF THE EFFECT OF CORRUPTION ON ECONOMIC GROWTH: which countries are better off fighting it? |
Summary | This thesis is aimed at empirically demonstrating that corruption’s effect on GDP per capita is correlated with countries’ income level: it is negative for high-income countries, but positive for countries where GNI per capita is less than 995 USD. The fixed effects method for the panel data of 152 countries and 14 years is used to find the impact of economic growth determinants: corruption and human capital indices, population and inflation rates as well as foreign direct investment and trade openness estimates. The reasons for corruptive behavior, consequences it brings, and suggestions for feasible policies for the problem eradication are also substantially discussed. |
