Title Correlating Tech-enabled Gender Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence in the Western Hemisphere in Relation to the COVID-19 Pandemic
Summary The aim of this thesis is to correlate the rise in technology-enabled gender abuse before, during, and now immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic in the global north. The thesis discusses this in three sections. The first part discusses the background relevant to contextualizing the thesis’ analysis; in particular how technology has been used as a method of controlling and escaping gender violence. Part two discusses technology as a tool of gender abuse in the context of the United States as a case, and part three discusses considerations for future research on the issue. The thesis ends with conclusions surrounding the necessity of digital literacy and more equal access to technology for women at socioeconomic disadvantages.
