Title The Influence of Pedological Theories on the Social Integration of Arctic Minorities in the Early Soviet Era
Summary My thesis explores the development and application of pedological theories in the Soviet Union during the 1930s, focusing on the social integration of Arctic minorities. Pedology, science of the child, aimed to transform “backward” children from national minorities into unified socialist society. The research investigates how the most relevant pedological theories, influenced by the ideological and political debates, intersected with educational practices aimed at small peoples of the Far North. The study analyzes the theoretical frameworks and their practical implementations. The findings indicate that while pedology aimed to provide a scientific basis for State modernizations initiatives, including the Far North, it was slowly disintegrating from the inside influencing the practical application by various reasons such as the lack of consistent methodology. Therefore, this study reveals significant gaps between theoretical ambitions and practical realities.
