Title | Transformative Power Of The Marginal, Liminal Roma Body In The Context Of The 1998/99 Kosovo War |
Summary | This study explores the intersection of war and liminality through the everyday experiences of the Roma bodies, during and after the Kosovo War of 1998/99. By drawing on post and decolonial feminist perspectives, the research investigates how war as a liminal state interacts with Roma as marginal and liminal. I rely on semi-structured interviews and a selection of ethnographic storytelling. This study examines how Roma agency emerges where least expected, challenging the assumed vulnerability/resistance binary. It argues that Roma offer unique perspectives that expand the discussions on war, trauma, and resistance. By centering the Roma body as a site of both generative power and vulnerability, this research aims to contribute to broader discussions in International Relations and critical Romani studies, making a case for more nuanced understanding of liminality bounded war experiences and their transformative potential. |
