Title The Impact of Trade Agreements on Wine Export Volumes
Summary This thesis explores the impact of international trade agreements on wine export volumes, focusing on the European Union (EU) and its partner countries. It examines the effects of five key trade agreements: the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada, the EU-Mexico Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the EU-South Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and the EU-South Africa Trade, Development, and Cooperation Agreement (TDCA).
Using a multiple linear regression model, the research analyzes the influence of these agreements on wine export volumes from 1995 to 2022. Control variables include GDP, population growth, vineyard area, wine consumption, and wine production. Key findings indicate that trade agreements significantly boost wine export volumes by reducing tariffs, simplifying import procedures, and enhancing market access.
The thesis underscores the importance of addressing non-tariff barriers, leveraging market trends, and continuously adapting trade strategies. Recommendations include simplifying SPS measures, promoting mutual recognition of conformity assessments, modernizing customs procedures, and adopting sustainable production practices.
Overall, this research highlights the critical role of strategic trade agreements in expanding international wine trade and enhancing the competitiveness of the EU wine industry, offering practical insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders.
