Title Saving for a Child's Higher Education: Evidence from Kazakhstan
Summary This thesis focuses on the State Educational Savings System launched in Kazakhstan in 2013 by comparing parents who participate in this deposit system (savers) with those who do not (non-savers). The primary data, collected from a sample of 194 parents in the population following a financial expert's blog, are used in bivariate analysis and multi-group confirmatory factor analysis. The findings reveal no statistically significant association between the demographics and savings status of the parents. However, non-participating parents showed lower psychological well-being, specifically higher economic pressure, parenting stress, and lower personal mastery levels, compared to participating parents. The findings both provide insights into potential adjustments to the program mechanism that could increase its appeal and suggest directions for further research on the system's impact.
