Title Rethinking Legitimacy: Grassroots Climate Change Movements
Summary With increasing threat of climate change, grassroots climate change movements mushroom worldwide and demand a say in global policy making. Hence, there is a constant need to distinguish the movements that can be legitimate partners in climate change talks form the negligible ones. The puzzle one has to face is how to measure grassroots climate change movement’s legitimacy – a concept rooted in the political science realm. Thus, the study develops a legitimacy assessment framework a tool to evaluate legitimacy of grassroots climate change movements as well as presents a case study of its application to 350.org.
