| Title | THE SOVIET-YUGOSLAV CONFLICT REFLECTED IN THE PRESS OF COLD WAR AUSTRIA, 1948-1950 |
| Summary | This thesis aims to describe the representation of the Soviet-Yugoslav dispute in the Austrian press. The analysis is based on articles published in three different newspapers, each with their own political view, readership and purpose. The Soviet-Yugoslav dispute had a great impact on the ongoing State Treaty discussions, which brought about Austria’s freedom. In the first stages of the discussions Yugoslavia demanded the territory of southern Carinthia. The newspapers used for this analysis all had a different attitude towards this claim, which they represented in their articles. With the expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Cominform the whole political situation in Austria changed and so did the perception of the press. |
