| Title | Abd al-Qadir's Idea of jihad (1808-1883) |
| Summary | The project of intellectual history traces the gemology of ʿAbd al-Qādir’s Idea of jihād within the context of Sufi revivalist movements of North Africa and reformist thought of Naqshbandiyya. To establish it, this project traces the ideas of Sufi revivalist movements of the nineteenth century and the reformist thought of Damascus in the nineteenth century. It also offers a brief biographical account of ʿAbd al-Qādir. The main hypothesis of this study is that ʿAbd al-Qādir’ idea of jihād developed first within the context of Sufi revivalist movements and then evolved during his involvement in the reform movement in Damascus. |
